10:30 Stroll Through Sanxia Old Street!

Sanxia Old Street

From Exit 2 of MRT National Taipei University Station, it is about a 12-minute walk to Sanxia Old Street. The old street refers to the shopping area along Minquan Street, stretching roughly 260 meters adjacent to the Sanxia River (Sanxia Creek).

Developed since the 18th century through indigo dyeing and water transport, the neighborhood took on its current red-brick streetscape during the Japanese colonial period. Featuring elegant Baroque-style architecture that incorporates Western, Japanese, and Chinese designs and patterns, these magnificent buildings are the defining highlight of Sanxia Old Street.

11:00 Try Sanxia Old Street’s Famous Local Foods!

Sanxia Old Street boasts several iconic specialties. Among them, the one almost every visitor tries is Zhuxiegao (Pig’s Blood Cake), made by solidifying pig’s blood with glutinous rice. Coated in a special sweet and savory sauce and dusted with peanut powder, this triangular treat may look unusual, but it has no gamey smell and offers a delightfully chewy texture. If you like spicy food, tell the staff “Yao La” (I want it spicy) to add hot sauce!

Another popular snack and souvenir is the Jin Niu Jiao (Bull Horn Bread). Although it resembles a croissant, its signature feature is a crispy outer shell paired with a dense, chewy interior. Fu Mei Xuan, the original shop located near Sanxia Market, sells only the original flavor. Meanwhile, various shops along Sanxia Old Street offer creative variations, such as chocolate-filled or ice-cream-topped versions, making a taste-testing comparison lots of fun!

For lunch, head to a retro-style eatery! “Houdao Eatery (Sanxia Branch)” is located on the 2nd floor of a building right near the entrance to Sanxia Old Street. Its signature dish is the highly popular Pork Chop Rice (Paigu Fan). Served over rice, the fried pork chop features a crispy coating and juicy meat—ideal for a hearty meal. Their smooth and chewy rice noodles (Mitaimu) are also very popular.

Behind this monument stands a historic red-brick building. It was originally the family residence of Mr. Wang Ju-wan, founder of Xintaiyuan Electromagnetic Ceramics, who played a key role in developing Yingge’s ceramic industry. Retaining historical details such as the “K” initial (representing the Wang family) on the exterior wall, terrazzo floors inside, and diamond-shaped lattice windows on the stair landings, this renovated building now operates as “Starbucks Coffee Yingge Branch.”
