2016 is over, let’s have a look where we traveled last year to report about interesting places around Taiwan. 🙂

The islands of Matsu are great for explore old villages. This great wall and staircase is at Jinsha Village in the southwest of Nan’gan Island.
We went on a road trip on the Northern Cross-Island Highway from Taoyuan in the west to Yilan in the East. The scenery along the highway is gorgeous.
In Kaohsiung we visited a few new modern landmarks such as the Dadong Arts Center.
We saw naughty monkeys in Taitung’s Donghe Township.
We walked through a “bamboo tunnel” in the northern part of Alishan
Niujiao Village’s Wulinggong Temple on Matsu’s Nan’gan Island impressed us with it’s bright red color.
And its fierce-looking door gods.
At Taipingshan in Yilan County we had a great time, but we were disappointed that the mini trains are not running anymore these days.
Little Liuqiu Island in southern Taiwan was hot, really hot.
At Kaohsiung you cannot miss the 85 Sky Tower, unfortunately we didn’t go up there.
There are so many great spots in Taiwan from where you can take in marvelous mountain scenery.
The Thousand Root Banyan in Taitung’s Zhiben National Forest Recreation Area was really impressive.
Sometimes, we just did enjoy ourselves…
Island travel is the best. Unfortunately there are not many islands in Taiwan like Matsu.
The weather was not always perfect, so Kaohsiung Harbor was not at its prettiest on that day.
We really loved the Swallow Cliff at Ruili, Alishan.
We did do some kayaking at Dapeng Bay in southern Taiwan
Mingchi is a peaceful place surrounded by verdant mountains.
We made it to the northernmost point of Taiwan!
The Taitung coast always makes you smile. 🙂
Ancient trees at Lalashan, unfortunately the park area was under construction. 🙁
The ferry trip to Qijin Island only takes like 10 minutes.
The rafting at Donghe was extra special.
We followed old railway tracks on Jianqing Trail.
The rugged coast of Dongyin Island was quite dramatic.
Picturesque tea plantations are part of Alishan’s scenery.
Exploring historic sites is part of our explorations.
There are quite a few scenic bridges and platforms around Taiwan.
Whenever there is a lighthouse, there is potential for a good photo.
Autumn feel at Taipingshan, a place known for maple leaves.
This bridge is the prominent landmark at Dapeng Bay in southern Taiwan.
Waterfalls are always among the highlights on our trips in Taiwan.
Finally, we went up to the LOVE sign in Kaohsiung City. From there you can enjoy great views of the city and the harbor.
